Aegis, a part of the Essar Group has signed a USD 2 billion deal with Saudi Telecom Company, in which the global outsourcing services company will manage the customer care operations of the largest telecom operator in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The joint venture, Contact Centre Company, will be near-equally owned by the two arms, with 50% plus one share being held by STC and the rest under Aegis, which will have operational control and responsibilities.

Accenture has signed a five-year business process outsourcing (BPO) contract with Statoil, an international energy company with operations in 40 countries, to manage the companys Accounts Payables processes.The agreement is designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Statoils Accounts Payable function by reengineering processes and increasing automation supported through Accentures Global Delivery Network using centers in Norway, the Czech Republic and India. The delivery of the outsourced services is scheduled to begin in September 2010.

Aegis, an Essar company, will likely join Genpact as it second member in the pure play billion-dollar BPO club. It will also displace Wipro BPO from its perch as the third largest Indian BPO exporter overall. Aegis is expected to make it with its recent USD2 billion 8-year deal with Saudi Telecom Company, Saudi Arabia's largest telecom operator. The deal would add USD250 million every year to the company's revenue. The USD 2 billion deal is one of the largest deals ever inked by an Indian service provider.

"We have developed IP domain expertise and ability to work on a scale required for Microsofts vast IP portfolio. We are also jointly developing processes and case management to streamline IP processes," Wipro general manger for LPO solutions Saju A. Joseph said in a statement.

West Bengal Information Technology Minister Debesh Das today handed over a Letter of Intent for three floors at the Siliguri IT Park to the company Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Partha De Sarkar.The minister and the company CEO later said the operations would begin with the launch of the Siliguri IT Park soon. "The HGSL would like to start its operation in Siliguri immediately," they said.

Aegis, the business process outsourcing (BPO) unit of the Essar group, is looking to acquire assets in Europe, where it has no presence. A unit in Europe, coupled with both organic and acquisition-led growths across its present locations in 11 countries, are expected to catapult the company to the top three positions in the BPO sector in the next few years. Aegis ranks amongst the top five BPO players, according to software industry body Nasscom. According to Aparup Sengupta, managing director and global CEO of Aegis, the firm has been looking for assets in Europe. It will also hire around 11,000 people in the next 12 months to expand in its present locations.

Indian IT major Tata Consultancy Services Ltd says that its BPO subsidiary in the UK, Diligenta, has won two life and pension contracts totaling 250 million pounds in revenue in the United Kingdom. While Unisys Insurance Services Limited (UISL) transferred its UK life and pensions service business to Diligenta, its contract with Phoenix Life has been extended by an additional six years, TCS said in a regulatory filing.

Indias Tech Mahindra Ltd. expects to start offering call center services to Bharti Airtel Ltd.s operations in six African countries from Feb. 1.Earlier this year, Bharti Airtel had selected Tech Mahindrab along with International Business Machines Corp. and Spanco Ltd.b to provide business process outsourcing (BPO), services to the carriers operations in 16 African countries.According to Sujit Bakshi, President, Corporate Affairs and BPO, under the five-year deal, Tech Mahindra will offer core customer service functions such as call centers and back offices in Zambia, Gabon, Ghana, Malawi, Congo DRC, Congo B.
