Tata Consultancy Services said its deal pipeline for Asia-Pacific has improved in the recent months, led by Financial services and revenue could grow at a double-digit pace this year. Indian IT service providers are poised to eke out a larger share of the global USD 28 billion addressable remote infrastructure management RIM services in the next five years, on account of cheaper labour and deeper skillsets, according to a recent report jointly prepared by Nasscom and advisory firm Mckinsey.Indian IT service providers already account for about 60 percent of the global RIM services. RIM, a general term used for the management of various IT services such as applications, network, IT helpdesk, software deployment and support, forms a part of the broader IT BPO outsourcing industry. And industry watchers believe its growing.

The pact with one of the largest drug makers in the world may indicate the return of the large ticket deals in the Indian IT sector. Merck has been an HCL client for six years but the deal marks a substantial enhancement of the relationship.

With the market witnessing recovery, major Indian BPO companies. Genpact, Infosys BPO and HCL, are looking at acquisitions in China and Europe. Genpact, which recently started focusing on the domestic market, is looking for acquisitions in India and other markets across various verticals such as supply chain, healthcare, captives and accounting and financial services.

The domestic India BPO services market grew by 7.3 percent year on year in 2009 primarily due to the global economic uncertainty which led to some price and volume pressures. Gartner estimates the Indian domestic BPO market will grow into a USD 1.2 billion market by 2011 and grow to USD 1.8 billion by 2013.

Software major Infosys Technologies today said more IT deals were coming in the past two quarters as all major markets are back on the path of economic recovery. What has changed in the last two quarters is that the markets have improved and deals are coming back. We see more deal flows, says Infosys CEO and MD S Gopalakrishnan.The recovery is led by the US and other emerging markets such as India and China. The US contributes 60 per cent of the total business. Clearly this is having more impact on the Indian IT services. Proactively we are investing more on diversifying our business, he said.

Indian business process outsourcing (BPO) firm Hinduja Global Solutions, Ltd. opened another facility in the Philippines on Friday, bringing its total investments to the country to USD35 million. The 3,522-square-meter, 1,000-seat call center at Eastwood Cyberpark in Libis, Quezon City cost USD2.5 million. This complements an existing facility also in Libis, known as HTMT Philippines. Opened in 2004 after the Hinduja Group’s acquisition of Customer Contact Center (C-Cubed), the facility which measures 8,672 square meters and has 2,000 seats is the single largest facility of the group outside India, company officials said.

Capgemini UK plc, a subsidiary of the Capgemini Group, has extended and renewed its Business Process Outsourcing BPO contract with Syngenta, the world’s leading crop protection and seeds producer for the agricultural industry. The new seven-year contract extends the scope of finance and accounting services and adds procurement services, delivering to the worldwide Syngenta business unit portfolio in over 50 countries. These services are expected to significantly contribute to Syngenta achieving worldwide process standardization and improving operational performance.

Nokia has outsourced desktop management and help desk functions in 76 countries to Indian outsourcer HCL Technologies. HCL announced that the handset maker has signed a five year contract.The outsourcer has set up a new office in Helsinki, Finland, to deliver nearshore services to Nokia, in addition to delivering services from centers in Poland, China, the U.S. and India.`The contract includes multilingual helpdesk services in 13 languages, global account management, workstation packaging, creation and maintenance, workstation security management, and onsite support services delivered by partners, HCL said.
