Telenor signs outsourcing deal

IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has inked a multi-year outsourcing contract with Telenor Norway.The contract comprises IT application maintenance and development services and will involve a modernisation of Telenors Norways application portfolio across its fixed, mobile, datawarehouse and accounting system domains, a release said here.Through this second generation outsourcing initiative, Telenor Norway will improve its operational efficiency, refresh its IT stack and will become more agile to respond to its customers changing needs, it said.

Wipro signs outsourcing contract

IT major Wipro Technologies has entered into a multi-year outsourcing engagement with British American Tobacco, to help the company improve effectiveness and efficiency of application support services for its global business operations. Under the agreement, both companies will partner to leverage Wipros global scale and transformational capabilities to achieve results in productivity, IT costs and service quality, a release said.

HCL signs partnership with Lippo Group

IT firm HCL Technologies entered into a partnership with the Indonesia-based Lippo Group to offer IT outsourcing in that country. PT Multipolar Technology, the subsidiary of the Lippo Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian IT firm, HCL Tech said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. Multipolar Technology targets to secure IT outsourcing projects in banking, telecom and other sectors this year.

TUI Travel signs up with T Systems

UK travel giant, TUI Travel has announced it has signed a five year network infrastructure outsourcing contract with Deutsche Telekoms corporate customer arm T-Systems. Under the agreement, which is reported to be worth GBP 88.2m, T-Systems will provide integrated voice, data and mobile services to all TUIs major brands. The deal which will cover the mainstream travel sector will provide support to 25,000 staff in 2,370 travel agency shops and 73 other offices across the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

L&T Infotech gets outsourcing contract

L&T Infotech, which competes with larger rivals Tata Consultancy Services TCS and Infosys, has won new outsourcing contracts from Indian Railways for building and deploying enterprise resource planning ERP solutions. These contracts, the first among a series of over Rs 100 crore projects being planned by the Indian Railways, will help one of the most complex and largest railway systems in the world automate its freight and locomotive management systems.

NASA signs outsourcing contract

NASA has signed a USD 2.5 billion, 10-year outsourcing contract with Hewlett-Packard, to meet it desktop, mobile and other computing needs. The federal space agency announced late last week that it had signed the agreement with HPs Enterprise Services unit in Herndon, Va., formerly known as EDS. HP acquired Electronic Data Systems, or EDS, for USD 13.9 billion in 2008.

Wipro signs contract

Wipro Infotech, the India and West Asian IT business of the USD 5 billion Wipro Ltd, has won a turnkey project from the Financial Intelligence Unit, India (FIU-IND) of the Union Ministry of Finance. A Wipro Infotech statement says that the company will implement the FINnet (Financial Intelligence Network) project for FIU-IND. With this project, the government intends to use technology for bringing efficiency into analysis of data. The projects scope of services include development of a portal, datawarehousing, deduplication, analytical application and ERP implementation at the data centre, besides a disaster recovery site.

BP signs outsourcing deal

BP has signed a USD 400m five-year outsourcing services deal with HP Enterprise Services.Under the agreement, HP will deliver global datacentre services that enable BP to standardise its hosting services.The deal allows London-headquartered BP to standardise its data centre operations thereby reducing cost, the company said. By establishing a standardised global operating model, BP will realise immediate cost reductions, improved consistency of service and be well positioned to utilise emerging technologies, said BPs CIO Dana S Deasy in a statement.

Indian Bank contract for TCS

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has won a Rs85 crore contract for implementation of a financial inclusion solution for Indian Bank. The project, based on smart card and cloud computing technologies, would enable the bank to offer rural banking services across 5,500 villages, according to the software exporter.The deal would cover a three-year period and TCS would provide the technology infrastructure, handheld devices and business correspondents to help the bank extend its coverage to rural population.

The acquisition will expand Hitachi Consulting's footprint with the addition of offshore Global Development Centre in Hyderabadwith a global delivery model. It will also bring expanded capabilities to Hitachi Consultings Oracle business. Sierra Atlantic offers a portfolio of enterprise application implementation and management services to customers , using Oracle, PeopleSoft, Siebel, Microsoft and Agile, in the discrete and process manufacturing, life sciences, financial services and retail industries. It also provides software development, testing and support services to software companies.
