On the back of revival in the outsourcing of IT services, the growth in the global outsourcing industry stood at 20 percentage in the quarter ended September compared to the same quarter last year. This is quite in contrast to the preceding April-June quarter when the growth was led by the BPO services. According to the latest report by the global management consulting firm Everest Group, the July-September quarter experienced a 89 percentage increase in the annual contact value (ACV) in IT services and a 50 percentage decline in the ACV of BPO deals compared to the same quarter a year ago.

L&T Infotech, which competes with larger rivals Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys, has won new outsourcing contracts from Indian Railways for building and deploying enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions. These contracts, the first among a series of over Rs 100 crore projects being planned by the Indian Railways, will help one of the most complex and largest railway systems in the world automate its freight and locomotive management systems.

Technology and management consulting company Accenture Plc (ACN) has entered into a global multi-year outsourcing agreement with Electrolux IT Solutions AB. The tech giant will be responsible of developing and managing a designated portion of Electroluxs enterprise applications, which consist of JD Edwards, Congos and Lotus Notes. The whole service will be delivered through a global delivery model, and the company expects this to catalyze the information technology restructuring process, resulting in a reduction of cost and enhancing efficiency.

Indias top mobile phone firm Bharti Airtel said it will award its contracts for its African operations to IBM, Tech Mahindra and Spanco, marking the second significant step in replicating its hugely-successful outsourcing model in that continent. Bharti Airtels international CEO Manoj Kohli and other officials with the worlds fifth-largest telco by customers declined to divulge the deal size, but an industry executive with direct knowledge of the development said the five-year contract was worth around USD500 million, with IBM and Spanco sharing most of the spoils.

Meggitt have signed an engineering management outsourcing contract with HCL. The contract is worth $50 million and will see HCL providing engineering services for the companys global operations. The contract was awarded after a multi-vendor review which ran for several months. The Indian animation market , estimated at USD 494 million in 2008, will likely grow at compounded annual growth rate of 22 per cent till 2012, an industry official has said. Indias largest IT player in infrastructure management services HCL Technologies has outbid global majors such as IBM, CSC and HP to wina $79-million deal to manage the IT infrastructure of Singapore Exchange. HCL Technologies on Monday said that it has signed a five-year IT infrastructure outsourcing agreement worth S$110 million, to establish a state-of-the-art data centre and seamlessly connect other global trading hubs to Singapore Exchange (SGX).

Wipro Infotech has won a technology outsourcing contract on turnkey basis from the Financial Intelligence Unit-India or FIU-IND, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, to develop an IT network to track all irregular financial transactions. According to the deal, Wipro will implement Financial Intelligence Network or FINnet for FIU-IND. The project is scheduled to be completed in 24 months in phases with a further service period of 36 months.

IT services provider Cognizant Technology has said it has signed a multi-million dollar deal with global firm 3M, which manufactures brands such as Scotch Brite. Cognizant have not provided any financial details of the multi-year deal. The deal includes a range of application development and related services to drive operational efficiencies and improve productivity of 3M, Cognizant said in a statement.

India's top mobile phone firm Bharti Airtel is all set to replicate its hugely successful outsourcing model in Africa with the award of a $1.5-billion contract to IBM for managing its IT requirements across 16 countries in the continent. Under the 10-year deal IBM will consolidate Airtel's IT operations in Africa into a single integrated system. IBM also coordinates Bharti's information technology requirements in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh under a deal signed in 2004 which is said to be worth at least $3 billion.

Indias fifth largest IT services company HCL Technologies has bagged a USD 500 million strategic IT outsourcing contract from the US based Merck Sharp and Dohme ,MSD,. The pact with one of the largest drug makers in the world may indicate the return of the large ticket deals in the Indian IT sector. Merck has been an HCL client for six years but the deal marks a substantial enhancement of the relationship.
