Greater London's Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has extended its contract with IT services supplier Capgemini until December 2015. The original B#350m seven-year deal was signed in 2005, but the police service opted for an early renewal.The extended contract will lock agreed cost savings in place and help management set budgets with greater certainty, says MPS.

India's MindTree is looking to grab a bigger share of the multi-billion dollar domestic technology sector, as the software services provider moves to reduce its dependence on the overseas market.The company has already bagged a prestigious contract from the Unique Identification Authority of India, or UIDAI, to play a part in project Aadhaar, which will assign biometric identities to more than one billion people. MindTree will provide software design, development, testing, maintenance and support services to UIDAI.

Technology giant IBM has signed a five-year, multi-million dollar deal with Quippo-WTTIL for managing the telecom tower company's IT infrastructure.This is IBMb s fifth such outsourcing contract in the Indian telecom space. It is already working with Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar, Idea Cellular and state-owned telco BSNL. As part of the deal, IBM will provide technical support for Quippo-WTTIL's IT infrastructure system, including managing the hardware, mailing and infrastructure management software applications, IBM said in a statement.

Microsoft is outsourcing its IT help desk, PC, infrastructure and application support to Bangalore, India-based Infosys Technologies Ltd. in a three-year deal that involves 450 Microsoft locations in 104 countries. Infosys CFO V. Balakrishnan was quoted by Dow Jones saying the deal was worth USD100 million. Anand Nataraj, Infosys vice president and unit head of infrastructure management services, said of the contract in an interview, It's a fairly large deal, and described it as a major win.

Global information technology spending in 2010 will grow 9.3 per cent, led by computer equipment and software segments, according to Forrester Research. In the US, which is the primary market for Indian IT services firms, IT spending is expected to grow 8.4 per cent.The numbers given by Forrester Research are more optimistic than similar forecasts by agencies like Gartner which has given a 5.3 per cent growth expectation.
