Outsourcing from Etisalat DB Telecom

Etisalat DB Telecom, the Indian unit of UAEs Etisalat, has entered into an agreement with Tech Mahindra Ltd for outsourcing information technology applications valued at USD400 million, in over 10 years, the telecom firm said.The outsourcing deal would include implementation of end-to-end IT applications and infrastructure, system integration and managed services, including components in Business Support System BSS and Operating Support System OSS domain, says Etisalat DB Telecom.

L&T Infotech wins outsourcing contract

L&T Infotech, which competes with larger rivals Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys, has won new outsourcing contracts from Indian Railways for building and deploying enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions. These contracts, the first among a series of over Rs 100 crore projects being planned by the Indian Railways, will help one of the most complex and largest railway systems in the world automate its freight and locomotive management systems.

Outsourcing contract for Unisys

Queensland's education department has renewed its IT outsourcing contract with Unisys netting the company an additional USD41 million from the state's coffers. Under the contract, Unisys will continue to provide IT services to TAFE Queensland and the Australian Agricultural College for the next three years. The contract also includes two optional one-year extensions.

ATOC renews outsourcing contract

The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) has renewed its long-term IT outsourcing contract with Capgemini UK plc for a further ten years. The GBP18.5 million contract covers support for the UKs National Rail Reservation System for the period 2009-2019 and was signed between Capgemini and Rail Settlement Plan Ltd (RSP) which is part of ATOC. Under the contract Capgemini will provide the IT infrastructure, Application Management and Infrastructure Management support of the reservation service.

House of Fraser has handed Capgemini UK a seven-year contact to take over the running of the retailer's entire IT operation.The contract, which begins this month, includes management of datacentre services, applications support and development, service desk and desktop support.These services were previously completed in-house and the agreement will see House of Fraser IT staff transfer to Capgemini UK.

Indian gaming industry set for growth

The Indian video games industry is poised to grow 49 per cent to touch USD 830 million by 2012, when the country's overall animation market will scale USD1 billion, says a report of software industry body Nasscom. According to the 2008-09 report of the IT-BPO industry body, the Indian animation industry was worth USD494 million in 2008. Globally, it will grow to a size of USD 100 billion at an annual growth rate of 10 per cent by 2012.

Australian blue chip companies are more likely than their overseas counterparts to send technology work to cheaper offshore locations such as India, according to a survey. Technology chiefs from Qantas, Foster's, Westpac, Holden and Wesfarmers Insurance were among 19 local participants in the Capgemini study.Chief information officers from 490 large commercial and public entities worldwide participated in the survey and included L'Oreal, Mars, Michelin, Allianz, ArcelorMittal, Bayer, Air France, Sanofi-Aventis and Shering Plough.

Dell to tap outsourcing market

Computer maker Dell Inc has launched a technology services focused company, Dell Services,that will focus on the mid-market enterprise customers. The company has integrated Perot Systems to its services business. Dell bought Perot Systems in September for USD3.9 billion, and the combined services entity has already pitched for 88 contracts. These contracts, mostly in the USD20-50-million range are similar to what Indian technology players target.

Nokia to outsource

Nokia has outsourced desktop management and help desk functions in 76 countries to Indian outsourcer HCL Technologies. HCL announced that the handset maker has signed a five year contract.The outsourcer has set up a new office in Helsinki, Finland, to deliver nearshore services to Nokia, in addition to delivering services from centers in Poland, China, the U.S. and India.`The contract includes multilingual helpdesk services in 13 languages, global account management, workstation packaging, creation and maintenance, workstation security management, and onsite support services delivered by partners, HCL said.
