The Toronto Pearson Airport has inked a five year, USD 130 million deal with IBM Canada Ltd. that will outsource the management of critical operations like ticket kiosks, passenger and baggage check in, and aircraft gates. Perhaps the most interesting part of this initiative to streamline IT systems is allowing Pearsonb s 60 airlines to be billed on a per usage basis instead of the traditional bundle of landing fees and terminal charges, said Rocco Rao, general manager of IT & telecommunications business programs with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), responsible for the management of Pearson airport.

Wipro Infotech, the India and West Asian IT business of the USD 5 billion Wipro Ltd, has won a turnkey project from the Financial Intelligence Unit, India (FIU-IND) of the Union Ministry of Finance. A Wipro Infotech statement says that the company will implement the FINnet (Financial Intelligence Network) project for FIU-IND. With this project, the government intends to use technology for bringing efficiency into analysis of data. The projects scope of services include development of a portal, datawarehousing, deduplication, analytical application and ERP implementation at the data centre, besides a disaster recovery site.

Software exporter Patni Computer Systems on Tuesday said it won a five-year IT and back-office contract potentially worth around USD 200 million from US-based health insurance provider Universal American. As part of the deal, Patni will acquire CHCS Services, a subsidiary of Universal American with technologies in the healthcare insurance segment.

Technology and management consulting company Accenture Plc (ACN) has entered into a global multi-year outsourcing agreement with Electrolux IT Solutions AB. The tech giant will be responsible of developing and managing a designated portion of Electroluxb s enterprise applications, which consist of JD Edwards, Congos and Lotus Notes. The whole service will be delivered through a global delivery model, and the company expects this to catalyze the information technology restructuring process, resulting in a reduction of cost and enhancing efficiency.

New telecom entrant STel has awarded a five-year IT outsourcing contract to Tech Mahindra. STel, which plans to compete with incumbent phone firms, including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications, had shortlisted Tech Mahindra and Wipro for outsourcing system integration-managed services. The contract also includes maintenance of the phone firms business and operational support systems.

UK travel giant, TUI Travel has announced it has signed a five year network infrastructure outsourcing contract with Deutsche Telekomb s corporate customer arm T-Systems. Under the agreement, which is reported to be worth GBP 88.2m, T-Systems will provide integrated voice, data and mobile services to all TUIb s major brands. The deal which will cover the mainstream travel sector will provide support to 25,000 staff in 2,370 travel agency shops and 73 other offices across the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

iGATE has said that it will hire 500 professionals in the next two quarters to support its expanding operations. Most of the 500 people we plan to hire in over the next six months will be in India and some in Mexico and the US. They will be employed in both services in BPO areas, says iGATE CEO Phaneesh Murthy.

Hewlett Packard Co. has received a contract from unlisted Indian telecom operator Aircel Ltd. to offer business services, including billing, customer management and database maintenance. The California-based software and hardware vendor will offer automation services to Aircel.Malaysia's Maxis Bhd. owns a 74 percent stake in Aircel, which is expanding its operations in the world's fastest growing and second largest mobile market.

Microsoft is turning over its internal tech support to India's Infosys under a three year agreement. As part of the deal, Infosys will provide Microsoft with help desk, infrastructure, and application support services.
Infosys will also open a service center specifically dedicated to serving Microsoft employees in 450 locations worldwide, and deploy Microsoft's own technologies,including Windows 7.

Accenture has signed a five-year application outsourcing contract with Nordea, a leading financial services group in the Nordic and Baltic Sea region, to develop and maintain applications that will support the bank's customer websites.The company said the deal is designed to help Nordea improve customer service and increase cost efficiencies. As per the deal terms, Accenture would assume responsibility for maintaining and developing Nordea's Web content management platform for its customer websites and would also provide the services through local facilities in Denmark and through its Global Delivery Network using centers in Bangalore, India.

Mahindra Satyam, an Indian IT services provider has won a four-year outsourcing contract worth USD 48 million from Denmark-based technology firm KMD.The new contract is an extension of a previous deal from KMD that was due to expire this year, the company said.The deal will continue the outsourced development of IT applications, in particular SAP (System Applications and Products). SAP applications lead the global market in providing collaborative, inter-enterprise software solutions to a wide range of businesses.

The HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), UK's tax authority, has begun its offshore outsourcing pilot programme in India with Capgemini in a bid to reduce operational costs.The pilot is part of HMRCs five-year USD 84 million outsourcing contract for tracking imports and exports. HMRC plans to save USD 7.5 million through the pilot, with the intent of further outsourcing after studying the initial programme.

Wipro Infotech has won a technology outsourcing contract on turnkey basis from the Financial Intelligence Unit-India or FIU-IND, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, to develop an IT network to track all irregular financial transactions. According to the deal, Wipro will implement Financial Intelligence Network or FINnet for FIU-IND. The project is scheduled to be completed in 24 months in phases with a further service period of 36 months.
