IT R&D to touch USD 21 billion

The IT R&D offshoring market in India is expected to record a CAGR of 23 percent to touch USD 21.4 billion by 2012, according to a study done by Zinnov, a consulting firm. Zinnov said there are around 600 MNC captive centres in India and for 2008, the total revenue is expected to touch USD 9.4 billion with USD 5.8 billion going to come from the MNC captive centres rest from the third-party vendors.

Tech Mahindra wins outsourcing contract

New telecom entrant STel has awarded a five-year IT outsourcing contract to Tech Mahindra. STel, which plans to compete with incumbent phone firms, including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications, had shortlisted Tech Mahindra and Wipro for outsourcing system integration-managed services. The contract also includes maintenance of the phone business and operational support systems.

Indian IT services market to reach USD 13 bn

The market for information technology or IT services in India will touch USD13 billion by 2013 according to a study released by the Indian unit of Singapore-based Springboard Research, an IT market research firm. The domestic market is expected grow at an average of nearly 19 percent annually from USD5.7 billion at the end of the financial year ended March 2008.

Outsourcing contract for HCL

HCL Axon has won a five year global IT contract with international pharmaceuticals giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).The agreement, called the Global Strategic Information Technology Master Services Agreement, details that HCL AXON and HCL Technologies will provide systems integration, SAP implementation and IT consulting services to GSK globally.Under the agreement, HCL will first act as GSKs systems integration partner for a large SAP-enabled business transformation programme. The scope of the project is currently in development.

Nissan sets for outsourcing

Japans third-biggest automaker Nissan has invited outsourcing companies including TCS, Wipro, IBM and Mahindra Satyam to bid for an application development and maintenance deal, potentially worth around USD250 million. Nissan, which currently works with Mahindra Satyam, among several other vendors, is among the other Japanese companies such as Sony and Toyota, who are seeking to reduce their operational costs by outsourcing IT and back-office projects to India. They are expected to spend around USD2 billion on outsourcing with India-based vendors this year, according to experts tracking these contracts.

HCL Axon wins contract

HCL Axon, a division of HCL Technologies and the worlds largest services provider dedicated to SAP solutions, has announced that it has signed a five year Global Strategic Information Technology Master Services Agreement with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), one of the worlds largest pharmaceutical companies. This agreement describes how HCL AXON and HCL Technologies will provide systems integration, SAP implementation and IT consulting services to GSK globally. IT outsourcing contract for Capgemini

The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) has renewed its long-term IT outsourcing contract with Capgemini UK plc for a further ten years. The GBP18.5 million contract covers support for the UK's National Rail Reservation System for the period 2009-2019 and was signed between Capgemini and Rail Settlement Plan Ltd (RSP) which is part of ATOC. Under the contract Capgemini will provide the IT infrastructure, Application Management and Infrastructure Management support of the reservation service.

Mindtree wins outsourcing contract

MindTree, an Indian IT outsourcing company will be making foray into China, having bagged a significant outsourcing contract from China's biggest telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies. For the Bangalore-headquartered company, China marks new geography entry, besides already having presence in US and Europe. Confirming the development , Mr Parthasarathy N S, CEO, testing & IMTS, MindTree, said, We will be doing independent testing in the telecom space. This project has different phases and has potential to become large. The contract also allows us to move up the value chain as China has emerged a big growth market.

Infosys sets up Dallas centre

Infosys Technologies, the second-largest software services exporter in India, has set up a wholly owned unit in the United States to bid for government projects there, reports quoting a senior Infosys official said."The subsidiary in the US has been formally set up and now we have to commit a business plan and hire people there," says chief financial officer V Balakrishnan.

HCL wins outsourcing contract

Nokia has outsourced desktop management and help desk functions in 76 countries to Indian outsourcer HCL Technologies. HCL announced that the handset maker has signed a five year contract.The outsourcer has set up a new office in Helsinki, Finland, to deliver nearshore services to Nokia, in addition to delivering services from centers in Poland, China, the U.S. and India.`The contract includes multilingual helpdesk services in 13 languages, global account management, workstation packaging, creation and maintenance, workstation security management, and onsite support services delivered by partners, HCL said.

IT infrastructure outsourcing on the rise

The global IT infrastructure market has been growing exponentially over past few years. The top 15 vendors analysed by Forrester in a recent report provided remote and onsite services for about 16.7 million desktops, 1.7 million servers and 23.4 million users globally. These vendors, including IBM, HP-EDS , CSC and some Indian tech firms including HCL delivered USD83.9 billion worth of infrastructure services last year.

Airtel to outsource

Accenture is in discussions with top Indian phone firms including Bharti Airtel for strategic outsourcing of new business processes apart from management consulting projects, as these telcos seek to sustain profitability and outsource non core functions. Experts who did not wish to be identified said these consulting and strategic outsourcing contracts could be smaller, estimated anywhere between USD50 million to USD200 million, but will bring high margin business for Accenture.
