The US largest drugstore chain Walgreens has announced a 10-year outsourcing deal with Indias BPO provider Genpact. As part of the contract, Walgreens will shift its accounting processes and jobs to Genpact, a move that will involve transfer of at least 500 jobs. This is Genpacts fourth large deal in past three months, signaling a gradual bounce back in the global BPO business market.

Mphasis, an Indian outsourcing firm, is opening a centre in Colombo which will offer legal, finance and accounting services starting with 600 people in the first stage, as a downturn is ending, officials said.We have a fairly well established global footprint and with the Colombo office we are expanding it further," Gopinathan Padmanathan, president applications at Mphasis said."After completing the due diligence Mphasis were really confident."

Legal process outsourcing from the UK and continental Europe is gaining traction. Nearly 20 law firms have tied up with Indian LPO firms in 2009 and the figure is expected to double this year.Sanjay Kamlani, co-CEO of Pangea3, said British and German companies are evincing interest for services in English.b Over the past six months, five of the top 10 law firms have been talking to us. A managing partner of one of the Magic Circle firms visited us,b Kamlani said. The Magic Circle represents the top five UK law companies.

Indian media company UTV Software Communications has signed a five-year BPO deal with IBM to streamline its key provisions. The technology giant will take over the companyb s finance and accounts, rights management, procurement, projects, material management and other key functions in a bid to provide a customer-centric operating environment. Included in the contract is Indiab s first cloud-enabled email system, according to the company.

Back-office services provider Genpact has bagged a five-year contract from telecom operator Unitech Wireless to provide multiple customer service solutions to the latter. The BPO firm, however, did not disclose the size of the contract. Under the five-year contract, Genpact will deploy customer service solutions for Unitech Wireless in North India through its operation centre in Jaipur.

IT and outsourcing giant announces plans to expand Indian BPO centres, having significantly cut US and European workforce in 2009. IBM has announced that it will increase its business process outsourcing (BPO) resources in India during 2010 by at least 5,000 people. The company currently operates BPO facilities in a number of Indian cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad and Gurgaon, and indicates that any expansion will likely take place in existing locations. It hopes to capitalise on an anticipated uptick in demand for BPO services during the coming year.

Indian BPO firm InterGlobe Technologies (IGT) has inaugurated its first Philippine business process outsourcing (BPO) site, as company officials said Indian companies are looking to the Southeast Asian country, not as a rival, but as another viable location for expansion. Capgemini UK plc, a subsidiary of the Capgemini Group, has extended and renewed its Business Process Outsourcing BPO contract with Syngenta, the worldb s leading crop protection and seeds producer for the agricultural industry. The new seven-year contract extends the scope of finance and accounting services and adds procurement services, delivering to the worldwide Syngenta business unit portfolio in over 50 countries. T-Mobile UK has signed a five-year outsourcing contract with Indias Infosys BPO, the BPO arm of Infosys Technologies. The contract covers several core processes for their finance directorate which cover customer finance, commercial finance and accounting (F&A), and procurement operations, Infosys BPO said in a statement.
