Insurance solutions from Genpact

Top back office services provider Genpact has partnered with IT firm Mastek to jointly offer solutions for the insurance industry in the first such alliance in the Indian outsourcing industry. The partnership will be for the US market from where Genpact gets a majority of its revenues. Genpact will leverage Masteks IT skills and knowledge in the insurance industry, while Mastek will benefit from the BPO firms reach in the US market.

LPO offering from Wipro

The business process outsourcing (BPO) division of Wipro Technologies will provide legal process outsourcing (LPO) to Microsofts intellectual property (IP) and licensing group worldwide, says the Indian IT bellwether. "We have developed IP domain expertise and ability to work on a scale required for Microsofts vast IP portfolio. We are also jointly developing processes and case management to streamline IP processes," Wipro general manger for LPO solutions Saju A. Joseph said in a statement.

Infosys BPO bags deal

Infosys BPO, a subsidiary of Infosys Technologies, said it has bagged a deal from IT firm Global Group to provide services in the field of information technology for a period of 20 months. "Post-completion of setting up a shared service centre (SSC), it is expected that the unit would accommodate more than 1,000 personnel," Infosys BPO said in a statement.

LPO deal signed

BT has sealed a BPO agreement to send basic legal tasks to outsourcing provider UnitedLex, while putting stop to the task of its in house legal support services team in India. Going forward, a 15-strong UnitedLex team which includes lawyers, project managers and online support and administrative staff will handle commercial contracting and antitrust regulation work for BT offices in the UK, the US, India, Singapore and Hong Kong. The team will be based in Gurgaon, India.

Accenture signs BPO deal

Accenture has signed a five-year business process outsourcing (BPO) contract with Statoil, an international energy company with operations in 40 countries, to manage the companys Accounts Payables processes.The agreement is designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Statoils Accounts Payable function by reengineering processes and increasing automation supported through Accentures Global Delivery Network using centers in Norway, the Czech Republic and India. The delivery of the outsourced services is scheduled to begin in September 2010.

Information Technology and BPO services provider Patni Computer Systems said on Tuesday it has won a multi-million dollar deal from Universal American, a senior health insurance company in the US. Swiss Re extends BPO contract

Swiss Re (Zurich) has extended its business process outsourcing contract with Falls Church, Va.-based CSC for 10 years. Under the terms of the deal, CSC will work with Swiss Re's direct life insurance business, Admin Re through July 2020. Admin Re acquires blocks of life insurance business, enabling these primary insurers to release capital and gain access to future profit streams from in-force portfolios.

BPO sector booms

Indias Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector is expected to grow 15-16 percent this fiscal, a top official of the industry group has said. The back-office outsourcing business registered a turnover of USD12.4 billion in the last financial year (2009-10). We expect the growth this year to be 15 to 16 percent higher than last year, says National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) President Som Mittal.

TCS expands operations

Expanding its footprint in Latin America, the countrys largest software exporter TCS says that it has opened a new deliverycentre in Buenos Aires for providing consulting, BPO and IT services which will employ 250 professionals. BPO centre for Shimoga

Coinciding with the visit of British Prime Minister David Cameron, the U.Ks Xchanging PLC today signed an agreement with the Karnataka Government to establish a state-of-the-art BPO Centre in Shimoga. This is the first processing centre being set up by Xchanging PLC in a Tier-III town in India and also the first to come up in Shimoga, home district of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. Xchanging Chief Executive David Andrew, who signed the agreement with Karnataka Government owned Electronics Development Corporation (KEONICS) Managing Director Harikumar Jha in the presence of Yeddyurappa, said his firm was one of the top 200 companies in the U.K. Construction on the six acre site leased to it in Shimoga SEZ would commence in the next two months and is expected to be compeleted in 18 months, he said.The BPO will have an initial capacity of 1,000 people with an option to scale up to a 2,000-seat centre.
