Aegis, the Essar Groups BPO arm, on Monday announced setting up of an independent technology subsidiary called Aegis Tech. The group plans to invest USD100 million over the next 12 months in this subsidiary. We have a lot of requests from our BPO clients to manage their IT infrastructure. Most companies are looking at converting their capital expenditure to operating expenditure, so we see a good potential in this business, said Aparup Sengupta, MD and global CEO, Aegis.
He said the proposed investment would be funded from internal accruals with the promoters too chipping in with a share. Aegis Tech claims it will provide customised solutions in the areas of voice and data, networking, unified communications, managed services, info security and remote infrastructure management.
Aegis Tech will focus on India, the Philippines, US and Costa Rica. Recently, Aegis announced the acquisition of UCMS Group, Australian contact centre for Aus USD54 million Rs 201 crore.
With this acquisition we also hope to increase our presence in Australia, he added. The company has appointed SK Jha as the president of Aegis Tech. To begin with Aegis will have 500plus people spread across India, Asean, North America, Africa and Australia. The employee base is expected to reach over 1,000 in the next 1218 months through new hires and acquisitions, said Jha.
