Sri Lanka has invited a series of Indian IT outsourcing firms to invest in the nation in order to gain a competitive edge, according to new reports.Indian IT firms ITES and BPO have both been encouraged to outsource their projects in Sri Lanka, as the nation says it has a wide talent pool of trained personnel available at lower costs.
Sri Lankas minister for export, development and international trade Mr G L Peiris made the claims at a conference in Chennai.
Mr Peiris highlighted the countrys generalised system of preference under which 7,200 products can be exported to the EU without levy of duty.
He said, India does not have this scheme in force and Sri Lanka is the only country in South Asia to have this scheme in force.
India has become the third largest trading partner of Sri Lanka, after the US and the UK. Huge potential exists for further co operation.
More regionally in the UK, a number of businesses are using local IT outsourcing firms in Manchester and London to improve the efficiency of their firms.
