After Wipro and IBM, one of the biggest recruiters on the citys BPO street is tipped to be ICICI OneSource. Though the official launch of its Kolkata BPO unit is unlikely to happen before June, ICICI OneSource has silently started hiring ITeS professionals in batches for entry-level jobs.
While several head-hunting firms are likely to be involved in the exercise, ICICI OneSource has just given the initial recruitment mandate for its Kolkata BPO facility to 2COMS Consulting, a city-based staffing firm.
"Weve recently bagged the recruitment mandate from ICICI OneSource for its upcoming Kolkata BPO facility. 2COMS will initially hire back-office executives/associates for entry-level placements at ICICI OneSource. Weve already completed recruitment of two batches, aggregating some 100 professionals," a top source at 2COMS Consulting told
It is, however, learnt that the entry-level salaries at ICICI OneSources city unit are likely to be in the Rs 6,500-8,000 per month range, which is at least 20% below entry-level salaries at ICICI OneSources BPO units in Mumbai. Monthly salaries at the entry-level for voice-based BPO work start as high as Rs 10,000 at OneSources Mumbai units. At present, ICICI OneSource has 13 BPO centres across Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Trichy, Pondicherry and the US.
Significantly, ICICI OneSources Kolkata facility will largely be involved in call-centre operations, transactions processing, back-office processing and research & analysis work for global clients in the financial services, healthcare and utilities, telecoms and media verticals.
When contacted, an ICICI OneSource spokesperson said "We do not divulge names of recruitment companies involved in any ICICI OneSource hiring exercise for new BPO projects. We propose to hire at least 1,000 ITeS professionals for the Kolkata facility that should be up and running by June 06. Weve acquired 90K sq ft of space at the Technopolis IT facility in the citys Salt Lake Electronic Complex (Saltlec)."
ICICI OneSource officials, however, declined to confirm whether they will hire senior managerial personnel for the city unit from the local talent pool. "We have not taken a call on this. At present, we are purely hiring entry-level executives for the upcoming Kolkata facility. Weve not taken any decision on whether senior staffers from other OneSource centres may be relocated to Kolkata ahead of the kick-off," said company officials.
