MphasiS, an IT services provider, has opened a new Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) centre in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The centre will kickstart the BPO by providing services to Idea Cellular, which is the largest mobile services operator in the Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh area. MphasiS intends to recruit over 500 employees at the Raipur center. The centre was formally inaugurated by Dr. Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh today in the presence of Ramesh Bais, Member of Parliament, Raipur and Brijmohan Agrawal, Minister-Public Works Department, School Education and Parliamentary Affairs, Chhattisgarh.

The deal covers European administration and a finance transformation project, aiming to improve the London-based firmb s productivity and operating flexibility. BMO Capital Markets has signed a long-term BPO contract with BancTec to manage its invoices and cheques. As part of the contract BMO Capital Market will direct invoices to BancTecs facilities, where they are scanned, processed and archived for backup. Additionally, paper cheques will be converted to electronic images to enable clients to manage late payments or missing customer account details more efficiently.

US largest drugstore chain Walgreens has announced a 10-year outsourcing deal with Indias BPO provider Genpact. As part of the contract, Walgreens will shift its accounting processes and jobs to Genpact, a move that will involve transfer of at least 500 jobs. This is Genpact fourth-large deal in past three months, signaling a gradual bounce back in the global BPO business market.

The business process outsourcing (BPO) division of Wipro Technologies will provide legal process outsourcing (LPO) to Microsoft's intellectual property (IP) and licensing group worldwide, says the Indian IT bellwether. "We have developed IP domain expertise and ability to work on a scale required for Microsoft's vast IP portfolio. We are also jointly developing processes and case management to streamline IP processes," Wipro general manger for LPO solutions Saju A. Joseph said in a statement.

Accenture has signed a five-year business process outsourcing (BPO) contract with Statoil, an international energy company with operations in 40 countries, to manage the company's Accounts Payables processes.The agreement is designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Statoil's Accounts Payable function by reengineering processes and increasing automation supported through Accenture's Global Delivery Network using centers in Norway, the Czech Republic and India. The delivery of the outsourced services is scheduled to begin in September 2010.

The Indian BPO sector, which started as USD1.6 b market has seen a CAGR of 31 per cent and will cross the USD14.7 billion mark by end of 2010, said Nasscom President Som Mittal, inaugrating the 12th edition of the Nasscom BPO Summit. Though the Indian BPO business is growing, we have to overcome hurdles to create a right talent pool and infrastructure. Earlier, BPOs were concentrated in Tier I cities, however now they have realiseed the potential available in domestic market and are at aiming smaller cities, he added.

Outsourcing giant announces plans to expand Indian BPO centres, having significantly cut US and European workforce in 2009. IBM has announced that it will increase its business process outsourcing (BPO) resources in India during 2010 by at least 5,000 people. The company currently operates BPO facilities in a number of Indian cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad and Gurgaon, and indicates that any expansion will likely take place in existing locations. It hopes to capitalise on an anticipated uptick in demand for BPO services during the coming year.

Indias Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector is expected to grow 15-16 percent this fiscal, a top official of the industry group has said. The back-office outsourcing business registered a turnover of USD12.4 billion in the last financial year (2009-10). 'We expect the growth this year to be 15 to 16 percent higher than last year,' says National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) President Som Mittal.

Vikram Talwar, chairman of Nasscomb s BPO Forum and executive chairman of BPO company EXL Service, said bad news was still around. "The European crisis looms, the US numbers are still not good. A double dip is possible. We should be able to take those challenges,"he said at the inaugural session of Nasscomb s BPO Strategy Summit 2010.

India's Knowledge Process Outsourcing KPO market is forecast to grow by 25 to 30 per cent annually till 2013, driven by rising demand for professional services, global research firm Gartner said.The emerging KPO space, which constitutes a small part of the overall business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, is estimated to have a market size of USD 50 to 70 million at present.
