The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) has renewed its long-term IT outsourcing contract with Capgemini UK plc for a further ten years. The GBP18.5 million contract covers support for the UKs National Rail Reservation System for the period 2009-2019 and was signed between Capgemini and Rail Settlement Plan Ltd (RSP) which is part of ATOC. Under the contract Capgemini will provide the IT infrastructure, Application Management and Infrastructure Management support of the reservation service.

Software exporter Patni Computer Systems has won a five-year IT and back-office contract potentially worth around USD 200 million from US-based health insurance provider Universal American. As part of the deal, Patni will acquire CHCS Services, a subsidiary of Universal American with technologies in the healthcare insurance segment.

Wipro Infotech, the India and West Asian IT business of the USD 5 billion Wipro Ltd, has won a turnkey project from the Financial Intelligence Unit, India (FIU-IND) of the Union Ministry of Finance. A Wipro Infotech statement says that the company will implement the FINnet (Financial Intelligence Network) project for FIU-IND. With this project, the government intends to use technology for bringing efficiency into analysis of data. The projects scope of services include development of a portal, datawarehousing, deduplication, analytical application and ERP implementation at the data centre, besides a disaster recovery site.

iGTE has said that it will hire 500 professionals in the next two quarters to support its expanding operations. The IT R&D offshoring market in India is expected to record a CAGR of 23 percent to touch USD 21.4 billion by 2012, according to a study done by Zinnov, a consulting firm. Zinnov said there are around 600 MNC captive centres in India and for 2008, the total revenue is expected to touch USD 9.4 billion with USD 5.8 billion going to come from the MNC captive centres rest from the third-party vendors.

Indias MindTree is looking to grab a bigger share of the multi-billion dollar domestic technology sector, as the software services provider moves to reduce its dependence on the overseas market.The company has already bagged a prestigious contract from the Unique Identification Authority of India, or UIDAI, to play a part in project Aadhaar, which will assign biometric identities to more than one billion people. MindTree will provide software design, development, testing, maintenance and support services to UIDAI.
